Eight United pilots continued the United MEC Strike Preparedness Committee's Picket Anytime, Anywhere campaign on July 24 in Boston, as they conducted informational picketing at Wellington Management Co., in Boston. The picket was successful, and caught the attention of one airline analyst at Wellington, who came out of his office to discuss the United pilots' presence with UAL-MEC Family Awareness Committee Chairman Captain Shawn Murray.

Pilots attending the picket were Ward Dunning (kneeling) and (l-r) Kirk Peterson, Mike Zablocki, Kevin Jonas, Wes Fletcher, Shawn Murray, Rita Lanney and Gary Ciezynski.

By all accounts, our event was very successful. A total of 20 United Pilots attended. We gather by 10am, briefed at 10:30am and picketed firstly for 1hr., then took a 15 min. break, followed by a 35min. orbit, which was stopped because temperatures were into the mid. 90’s. Upon arrival, Capt. Mike DeSantis and myself met with the local police and two security persons from Impala. They told us that they understood our motives and were welcomed to picket. They also pointed out that Impala Asset Management had prepared coffee for us. Bob Nealon, had also brought two coolers full of cold bottle water and Gator-aid.

After about 30 min. of orbiting Capt. Mike DeSantis was told that some people at Impala wanted to talk with us. He accepted the invitation and remained there for about 45min. He later reported to us, that he was greeted and spoke with two airline analyst, and a manager for Impala. Also, upon his exit from their offices, we were recorded by local HBO channel 12. Mike also, gave a short interview. In addition, two local papers, (ie. New Canaan Advertiser (203)966-9541, and the Stamford Advocate (203)964-2258), were given interviews by Mike.

We completed our Picketing at about 12:45pm and met at 1pm at a local restaurant. Lunch lasted about 1:15 were everyone was thank for participating.

The following pilots attended: Robert Nealon, Jeff Drake, Mike DeSantis, Hector Velez, Mike Sodergren, Mark Strasfeld, Wes Summers, Paul O’Halloran, Dean Krupa, Terry Hayni, Joe Pedata, Greg Dean, David Stalzer, Russ Seff, Dave Hoadlon, Jane Weeks, Jim Walter, Sid Head, Jerry Baczewski and myself.

Thanking everyone involve in this effort,
Randell Vicens.
